The Ministry of Spiritual Direction Course

The Ministry of Spiritual Direction Course is an ecumenical course designed for those who are engaged in, or have been asked to, undertake a ministry of spiritual direction, however informal this might be.

It is a two year course, held monthly on Mondays from 10am to 4pm, from September to June. Each year commences with a two-night residential meeting, which usually takes place on a Monday to Wednesday.

The 2009-11 course is fully subscribed.

The course takes place at St Bonaventure's Presbytery, Egerton Road, Bishopston, Bristol with the residentials taking place at Abbey House, Glastonbury. 

The Presbytery is easily accessible from the A38 and there is adequate parking next to the Presbytery in Friary Road. Bus service No 20 runs from Bristol Centre and takes about 20 minutes.

Fees (including cost of residentials) are currently £475 a year, payable termly. Bursaries are available in exceptional circumstances.

Admission is subject to interview. There will be an assessment at the end of the first year to discern participation in the second.

Spiritual Direction

The aim of the Ministry of Spiritual Direction Course is to enable participants to deepen their own spiritual experience, and to provide them with the skills and insights needed to accompany others.

Participants will have an opportunity to:

• look at themselves and their developing spiritual life.
• familiarise themselves with tools and techniques to enable them to help others in their spiritual journey.
• explore something of the history of prayer and spirituality, and how this is relevant for Spiritual Direction today.

The course uses a variety of techniques. Participants will be expected to work with their own material and experience individually, and in small groups with a tutor.
